Okay so I went to a home show today at the convention center downtown and I saw what will soon become my new pet. They're called
sugar gliders (Petarious Breviceps) . By far the cutest little things I have ever seen.
Since I wont be able to have a dog when I move I figure this is cheaper and easier to care for. Plus I can bring them with me everywhere especially during the day because they're nocturnal but even when sleeping they like to be with there owners.
They are very social, and bond to the person who gives them good care and treats them well. If there is more than one person that feeds them and holds them they will always have a favorite person. I saw this for myself when the guy selling them gave one of the gliders to a woman to hold. The glider jumped from her hands back to his sole owner. I was like wow lol.
They have a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years if cared for properly and given the proper diet. In the wild their life expectancy is closer to 7 to 8 years; due to predators. The salesman had pictures of Sugar Gliders sleeping with cats, or riding on dogs head, but I guess that would depend on the nature of the other animal. I do have a cat but she's fairly calm and spends most time out the house.
As far as feeding goes they eat purina dog food as a source of protien and friut. So I don't have to touch a nasty bug lol
Here are some other pictures I found of the cuties.
Im sooo excited - can't wait to get one!!!
